I think 'non-thinker' is a tremendous exaggeration that reflects the superficial judgments made by Americans these days.
I know in your case, Pink, you think things through. I'm not questioning your intelligence or thought - just your conclusions. :-)
For Bush, in particular, I think he put a great deal of thought into the need to remove Saddam. I think that side of it was thought out very extensively. And, frankly, I agreed with him on that.
What didn't get a lot of thought was the post-Saddam Iraq. What do we do once Saddam is gone?
I remember saying to my friends and family that it would be a quick war and a LONG, painful occupation after the war. Looks like that's the case.

although i would like to resort to shallow statements on g. bush; i won't. i really would rate him average since he very much like the rest of us except we don't have daddy's that will buy the presidency for us. there is certainly nothing exceptional about his thinking other than he iss not aware of reality enough to be guiding this nation.

- Finally a RATIONAL critic
It's nice to finally interact with a rational, reasonable critic of Mr. Bush. Rare and refreshing.

- yes, but...
Agreed, but I wouldn't say he is a complete non-thinker across the board. Anyone who wins a presidential election in the modern age has to be able to THINK - at least a little. I'm not saying he's brilliant. Far from it. I would say he has a mediocre intellect, which would be okay - if he would surround himself with and listen to people who are smarter than him and don't necessarily fit within his preferred inner circle.

People who believe that Bush is an idiot or incompetent are falling for an slight-of-hand trick. He does what he wants, comes up with a reasonable sounding explanation for his actions. When the action doesn't stand up to the "cover" rationale, he lets the pundits and bloggers argue about the merits of the cover rationale. While in the mean time, keeps doing what he wants and then people think he doesn't get itor listen. He gets what he wants. This is hardly non-thinking.

I think that's pretty observant. George W. Bush is definitely not a DEEP thinker - and he's definitely not great at getting different points of view. George Washington, for example, wasn't a deep thinker either, but he was VERY good at surrounding himself with people smarter than he was - and who represented different perspectives and outlooks. And he would get their counsel (and truly LISTEN to it) and then make a decision. Bush doesn't do that. He surrounds himself with his own personal Inner Circle. You could tell, for instance, that Colin Powell was never really in Bush's Inner Circle. Condi Rice is.
So, I do find some fault with Bush. He's more close-minded than he should be, which is a bad combo when you're not naturally brilliant intellectually. BUT............
George W. Bush is no slouch. He's no idiot. He's a very shrewd, clever businessman - and he knows how to play things (including people's underestimating him) to his advantage.
